10. Operation mode: Hybrid vs Cloud‑Only

The operation mode tells Scalio Nexus how identities originate, which changes which actions are safe to perform directly in the cloud.

Cloud‑Only

  • Users are mastered in Entra ID (no on‑prem AD).
  • The app creates/updates/disables users directly via Graph.
  • Cloud Sync is not applicable (the Cloud Sync card reports “cloud‑only”).

Hybrid

  • Users originate in on‑prem Active Directory and are synchronised to Entra (Entra Cloud Sync / Connect).
  • Certain attributes are source‑of‑authority = on‑prem; the app respects this and can trigger on‑demand provisioning (see Cloud Sync) to accelerate propagation.
  • Offboarding may need an on‑prem step; the app flags users that are mid‑sync (cloudSyncPending).

Where to set it

  • Setup Wizard → step 1 (both modes).
  • Later: Settings → Microsoft 365 → Operation mode.

Choosing the correct mode ensures the app doesn’t attempt cloud‑only writes on attributes owned by on‑prem AD.
